What we are all about
It’s always been a bit of a joke about men. That even if they are lost they won’t stop and ask for Directions. As funny as the joke may be there is a serious side to it.
Suicide is the biggest killer of men under 40. Why is that? Because men don’t ask for help when they need it.
They suffer in silence. They feel like they should be able to cope with anything and that feeling stressed/depressed or anxious is a sign of weakness.
We want this to end. We want men to feel able to ask for help but not only that we want them to know where to go to get help when they need it. We want to provide a place for men to turn and ask for help. We want to support men who are :-
- Suffering from anxiety/depression or just not feeling themselves
- Victims of domestic abuse
- Suffering from Physical/sexual/emotional abuse
- Feeling isolated
- Problems with housing, debt, employment, relationships, drug or alcohol use
- Or just feeling a bit lost with no sense of purpose
Directions For Men provides groups and activities where men can meet other men talk about issues affecting them and receive support, a listening ear and some guidance.
We will be meeting weekly from the 26th of April 2024 at Farnworth Library :-)

As part of the support we run an 8 week course 3 times per year which aims to help people gain confidence and also helps with wellbeing in that they feel useful. Gaining some form of employment can help with mental health as it fills time during the day and gets the individual to meet new people. The course is designed to encourage and support in all areas.
