Do you fancy trying out something completely different, and think you might benefit from spending some time in the supportive, nurturing, peaceful environment of our hidden gem - The Roost at Bright Meadows?
The Roost is a fledgling edible forest garden (and community forest school space), led by multi-award winning social enterprise, Little Bats Learning. We're tucked away amongst the houses in Breightmet, and really are a bit of a secret garden.
On site, you will find a spacious polytunnel with a growing indoor garden, and cosy sofas for chats and support. Outside, we have a beautiful tipi for gatherings, complete with seating circle. There's a secure shed, in which we will be developing a small workshop space. We have a mini woodland, which is our forest school space for our local children of all ages.
We offer adults who would like to help us grow the space many opportunities for physical activities (gardening, conservation, and woodland management/habitat development tasks); practical - making, crafting, cooking. Take some mindful moments, try a bit of 'rakey'; potter amongst the plants, take time for tea and chat; craft, cook and make things; nurture our lovely bit of nature, and nurture yourself too.
This session is for all adults over 18.
Experience not needed, as our sessions are supported by our trained (and experienced team).
You just need to be keen to learn, be able to listen to instructions (to keep you and others safe), and willing to try new things.
Also, as it's an outdoor site, we can get muddy, and wet. We can loan waterproofs/boots to those who don't have them.
To read a bit more, have a look at our webpage - The Roost at Bright Meadows

Where you see the Bolton Mark symbol, it means that a club/group has been awarded an accreditation certificate for high operating standards within the community.
We are a competitive club, with a club team in several leagues as well as entering individual swimmers in local age group competitions.
Our more advanced swimmers compete at Lancashire County and Northwest Regional level and in some cases at English National and British Championship level.
We monitor every swimmer’s progress carefully and, when appropriate, we encourage individuals to enhance their training by also joining one of the elite level squads in the area. We strive to make the journey of competitive swimming enjoyable and healthy, especially by developing lifelong skills and friendships.

It’s always been a bit of a joke about men. That even if they are lost they won’t stop and ask for Directions. As funny as the joke may be there is a serious side to it.
Suicide is the biggest killer of men under 40. Why is that? Because men don’t ask for help when they need it.
They suffer in silence. They feel like they should be able to cope with anything and that feeling stressed/depressed or anxious is a sign of weakness.
We want this to end. We want men to feel able to ask for help but not only that we want them to know where to go to get help when they need it. We want to provide a place for men to turn and ask for help. We want to support men who are :-
Directions For Men provides groups and activities where men can meet other men talk about issues affecting them and receive support, a listening ear and some guidance.
We will be meeting weekly from the 26th of April 2024 at Farnworth Library :-)

From Mini to advanced there is a course for everyone. The gymnastic syllabus focuses on the gymnastic skills for the floor, bars, beam and vault apparatus. Children also work on their balance, strength, flexibility and co-ordination. The class ratio is 9:1 and the coach will split the children into 3 groups to work on skills related to the apparatus. This allows the children to maximize their time on practicing their skills and not waiting for turns. Coaches will work closely with the children where assistance is needed and the children will rotate around in their groups Bookable courses: Mini Gymnastics Beginner Gymnastics Intermediate gymnastics Advanced gymnastics

Hope for Mental Health is a 26 session rolling programme for men and women above the age of 18. This is not therapy - it is simply a discussion group about mental health, using a tool called the Hope Circle. We are a faith based group and use the Bible to seek wisdom in improving our mental health. However, this group is absolutely open to everyone regardless of your own faith or beliefs. We only ask that you respect each individual in the group.
We meet at 7:30pm on a Thursday evening (brews available from 7:15pm). We start with the Lord's Prayer and a couple of worship songs. We then might watch a video real life story before going out into the breakout room.
There is no pressure to talk or say anything. We start with a list of words in front of each person and we choose two words e.g. 'Anxious' and 'tired'. If we are able, we share how we are feeling using those two words with the rest of the group. We then have the opportunity to share a high and a low from the week just gone.
Once everyone has had an opportunity to share, we look at the lesson and each person can follow along in their journal. Sometimes, we do practical or art based activites, creating boxes of hope. Sometimes we might do a mindfulness exercise focusing on our breathing.
This is a safe space for everyone to inhabit. There is no expectation for anyone to share unless they want to. Every couple of months, we try to have either a social night (e.g. a walk around Jumbles or a trip over to Wetherspoons for a meal) or have somebody come and visit us to share their own story.
Note: Our 12 step Celebrate Recovery group - for ANY hurts, habits and hang-ups, is still meeting, but this is now hosted on a Wednesday at 1pm over in Breightmet (see Lee for details).
Let us know you're coming so we can look out for you.

We are an open access drop-in group for lovers of all things nature, whether new to gardening or with a lifetime of green fingers. The group has no membership requirements beyond a degree of enthusiasm for gardening and a willingness to roll up your sleeves and get stuck in.
Our garden is a place of beauty, peace creativity and joy. Here we have raised beds where we grow fruit, veg and flowers. The “secret garden” is an oasis of calm. All around there are beautiful scented flowers and herbs, fruit bushes and trees. Individual members can “adopt” a raised bed to grow vegetables and flowers. The ethos of the group is to grow and share.

Ju-Jitsu originated from the battlefields of Japan between the 14th and 16th century, when the Samurai would find themselves disarmed.
Using grappling techniques, students of Ju Jitsu are taught to use their opponent’s energy against them in the form of pins, joint locks and throws. In this way, it is not considered to be a violent sport, but rather, is based on values of respect, trust and confidence.
Our talented team of instructors have taught thousands of children in hundreds of schools and venues across the North West for over 25 years. Our mission is to encourage our students, whatever their age or ability, to gain confidence, empowering them to push themselves further than they ever imagined. Using fun and teamwork to engage students, giving them the physical skills and mental toughness to take on any challenge they set themselves. All of our instructors are fully insured, have an enhanced DBS check and are trained in Ofsted compliant paediatric first aid. They are also trained in the safeguarding of children and adults.

The club was formed in 1980. The current playing surface is a MastergreenTM carpet installed by Dales Sports Surfaces in October 2013. It is World Bowls Association approved and complies with WBA standards.
The Mastergreen surface allows play to take place all year, weather permitting, and offers bowling for everyone, from easy going social to very competitive. We have 80+ playing members ranging from National Champions and County players to newer members who have taken up the game in the last few years.
Our year is divided into a Summer Season, (April to September), and a Winter Season, (October to March).
SUMMER.
There are weekly leagues: Singles on Wednesday, and Pairs on Thursday morning. Progressive knockout competitions in various formats take place through the season. Fixed Day competitions, also in various formats, (Singles, Pairs, Triples), are held throughout the season. They are at weekends and sometimes Bank Holidays. Social Bowling takes place on Monday Evening (18.15 for an 18.30 start), Thursday afternoons, (13.15 for a 13.30 start, and those Saturday afternoons when the green is not used for Club or County events, (13.15 for a 13.30 start).. Some weekday afternoons members will arrive for a friendly roll up or a practice.
WINTER
Social Bowling also takes place on the above days, although the Monday session switches to the afternoon. There is also a Winter Pairs League on Wednesdays.
We also operate a Play Bowls/Keep Active scheme where potential members can join in five sessions free of charge before they decide if they would like to join the club. Current Full Playing Membership is £130
Visitors are welcome at social bowling sessions, subject to payment of a green fee.
All players must wear flat green bowling shoes and there are some available for use at the club. We also have available a selection of bowls.

We support young adults with neurodiverse needs and disabilities aged between 18 and 40 to build upon their independence skills and life skills whilst having lots of fun along the way.
We provide an environment where they feel valued and listened to and where they feel safe to embrace the opportunities around them. We encourage community interaction, developing friendships and improving communication skills. Our working days run Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 9.30am til 4pm. We charge £78.00 per day, although there is often funding available for young adults to attend Sapphire.
We work with social care, other professionals and the young adults' families in order to provide a service which keeps the young adults at the heart of what we do. The aim of meditation is to bring inner peace within ourselves and the world in a positive and spiritual way. The world is not a peaceful place and within every soul, there is some form of stress or stress and tension. It is essential to create positive and peaceful thoughts to bring peace of mind. The best way to begin the healing process is to alter our thoughts from being negative to positive. The positive discovery about meditation is that we are focusing on our self and becoming free of negativity.

We understand that starting something new may be a big challenge but don't worry, we are friendly and we can meet you before the session begins. Its all about making you feel comfortable and enjoy what we're about.
This is done through the performance of poses or postures, each of which has specific physical benefits. The poses can be done quickly in succession, creating heat in the body through movement (vinyasa-style yoga) or more slowly to increase stamina and perfect the alignment of the pose. The poses are a constant, but the approach to them varies depending on the yoga tradition in which the teacher has trained.

Our aim is to organise events that include everyone & to create a community worth being part of. To this end, we host a drop-in, where neighbours get together over a warm brew and cake for a chat. There is sometimes a craft to try or a game to join, whilst most enjoy the opportunity to socialise. We meet on the Third Thursday of every month 2-4pm in Heaton Library. Everyone is welcome to come along.

Our senior citizens group gather together on a Thursday morning, to chat, have a brew, read, play games (including table tennis), do chair based exercises and listen to music with each other. They also occasionally head out for day trips. We have a wonderful team of volunteers to chat to people, help out and make everyone feel welcome!
