Community Champion for Horwich South and Blackrod, Horwich North

I am actively engaged in community and social work in Horwich and Blackrod.

I set up the Over 50's Club at the Horwich Community Centre on Beaumont Road, which meets every 2nd and 4th Thursday of the month from 12.30pm to 2.30pm. This club is open to both men and women. Additionally, I manage Horwich Foodshare, a local food bank and warm space that supports vulnerable people in need. Both initiatives are run by myself and a dedicated team of volunteers.

Having lived in Bolton my entire life, I have spent the last 25 years in Horwich. I also served as the Town Mayor of Horwich from 2018 to 2019.

Specialist Roles

<strong>Civils Champion</strong><br>Local champions who can get into the heart of their community and share important information to help people stay safe in preparing for and responding to local emergencies.

<strong>Addiction Awareness Champion</strong><br>Understanding the impact that various forms of addiction can have - and championing local support to help people live healthier, happier lives.

<strong>Ageing Well Champion</strong><br>Encourage and support older people in our community to live well independently, ensuring older peoples voices are heard.

<strong>Campaign Champion</strong><br>Receive regular online information to promote and distribute positive Public Health campaigns i.e. cancer awareness, mental health promotion, Stop Smoking month, Dry January.

<strong>Mental Health Champion</strong><br>Mental health champions aren't expected to be experts in mental health, or to diagnose mental health problems. Instead, your role is to promote positive mental health and to signpost to relevant support and help where appropriate.

<strong>Physical Health and Wellbeing Champion</strong><br>Encourage communities to live a healthy and more active lifestyle.
