Community Champion for Breightmet, Tonge with the Haulgh

Hi …i am a menopause community champion who is currently employed by Bolton at Home as a UCAN Project Officer.

I've worked in the UCANs for 25 years providing advice, guidance, signposting and referrals for anything in relation to housing, debts & money advice, employment, health & wellbeing and whats on locally.

Through my work as a Project officer 14 years ago i set up, developed and still support the Wonder Woman group in Bolton, which provides a safe space where women can meet, socialise, make friends and join in various activities from arts & crafts to project around women's health & wellbeing. The aim of the group  is to help reduce social isolation, build confidence and raise self esteem and additionally are able to receive support from myself in relation to the UCAN offer.

As you can imagine there have been lots of menopause conversations at the group and lots of shared experience both positive and negative- i too most recently have come to an age where i have started with the menopause and i must admit its been educational and has had a huge impact on my life.

This is why i decided to be a community champion so i can build on my knowledge and confidently share information in relation to the menopause and have open discussions raising awareness and sharing what support is available.
